What to do with a free product coupon... part 2

I thought of a couple more things I wanted to mention about yesterday's posting- What to do with a free product coupon?

Deidre left a comment and reminded me of another great way to use your free product coupons. Use them as your filler items at Rite Aid or other stores if you have a $5 off $25 purchase or similar coupon. As long as you give your store coupon before the manufacturer's coupon, this usually works and will maximize your discount.

I also wanted to suggest that if you're not using the coupon for any of the other reasons I mentioned, use the coupon at a local store to support your local economy. Maybe you don't normally buy that particular product at that store because their prices are higher, but if you have a free product coupon, let the local store get the reimbursement from the manufacturer.

If you have any other suggestions, leave a comment and let me know.

It's almost the end of the month- coupons are going to be coming and going

Coupons.com has a few new one I haven't posted:

$.50 off one Lawry's marinade (you may need zip code 53027 if you don't see it)
$2.00 off Clean & Clear Finishes product
$2.50 off Huggies Pure & Natural Diapers (What?? Another Huggies coupon??)
Buy one get one free Littlest Pet Shop

And some of the others I posted earlier this week:
$1.00 off 2 Nabisco Multi-Packs (use with $1.00 off 2 Nabisco Multi-Pack Meijer MBQ)
$1.00 off 2 Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs
$1.00 off Kraft 100 calorie cheese package
$1.00 off 2 Campbells Chunky Soup

$1.00 off 1 Nivea Lip Care Product (these are between $1-$1.50 at Target- I got a 2 pack for $1.50 at Target a couple weeks ago- so $.50 after coupon)
$2.00 off any 1 Coppertone Suncare product (excludes trial size and lip balm)
$1.00 off any 2 Hefty One Zip bags (these are price around $1.00 each for the small bags at Target & Walmart)
$1.00 off any Energizer battery or flashlight
$1.00 off Tidy Cats litter

$3.00 off any Huggies Snug & Dry Diapers (60 count or higher)
$1.50 off Huggies Little Swimmers
$3.00 off Huggies Little Movers or Little Snugglers diapers
$2.00 off 2 Huggies wipes (64 ct or higher)
$2.00 off when you buy Huggies wipes tub (64 ct or higher) and Huggies wipes refill (184 ct)

Check my sidebar for links to other printable coupon sites (Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, etc.)

Keep checking Coupons.com for the next couple days because the beginning of the month coupons are always getting added!

What to do with all these Huggies coupons...

If you want to use all your $3.00 off Huggies diapers to stock up on diapers, here's a scenario for new customers at diapers.com to get 7 jumbo packs of diapers for $4.35 a pack.

How do you do this?

You can mail your coupons to the address below- you'll want to send 7 to get the 7 jumbo packs for $4.35 each. Make sure to include your name, address and email address so they know the account to credit. You'll want to set up your diapers.com account prior to mailing the coupons in so they have an account to credit.
Diapers.com
P.O. Box 483
Jersey City, NJ 07303

They will add them to your account within 7-10 days (I sent coupons in on a Monday and then were credited Thursday of the same week). They will place them in your account with the expiration date listed on the coupons. You'll want to do this soon if you already printed the Huggies coupons since they're only good for two weeks from printing.

Join Ebates and go through their site to get to diapers.com. If you want the Ebates credit, make sure you are accessing the diapers.com site through the Ebates site. To see my previous posting about Ebates, go here. Even though you only get a small percentage for this order, I'd recommend joining because there are so many other places that you get more and you still get the $5 new member credit.

Once your coupons are added to your account (you can check in your account at diapers.com or they usually send an email when they are added), add 7 Jumbo packs to your cart. Diapers.com has always lisited these coupons as any Huggies diapers, so you can usually use these for swim diapers, Snug & Dry diapers, Little Snugglers, Little Movers or Pull-ups. You will qualify for free shipping.

The coupons should automatically come off your order and your total will be $55.93.
Enter promo/referral code "sarah10off" to get $10 off your order, bringing your out of pocket total to $45.93.

After placing your order, fill out the $10.00 rebate form here and send with a copy of your receipt (you can print your receipt yourself). Make sure to write "cancel" on the rebate form to get the $10.00 rebate instead of a free magazine subscription.

You'll receive your $5 credit in your Ebates account with a couple days of the purchase and you'll receive a small percentage (I think it will be $.45 with this scenario) for your Diapers.com purchase.

Best Deal Scenario
7 Huggies Jumbo packs $10.99 each= $76.93
- $21 coupons= $55.93
- $10 referral code sarah10off= $45.93 (this is what you pay out of pocket)
- $10 mail in rebate= $35.93= $5.13 per pack
= $5 Ebates + $.45 rewards= $30.48 = $4.35 per pack!

**If you have any Pampers Gifts to Grow codes you can redeem 1000 for a $10.00 Diapers.com gift certificate which would make for an even better deal **

Please use the $10.00 referral/coupon code sarah10off. There are tons of coupon codes (for the same amount) but this gives me a referral credit and I would really appreciate your support!

If you want to spend less but still get a decent deal, here's another scenario where you will need 5 coupons.
Buy 5 Jumbo packs of Huggies diapers- $10.99 each= $54.95
Mail in 5- $3 off Huggies diapers coupons= $39.95
Use promo/referral code sarah10off to save $10= $29.95= $5.99 pack
Register and use Ebates to get $5 new member credit plus $.29 earnings= $24.66= $4.93 per jumbo pack

Let me know if you have any questions!

shop diapers.com
Get $10 off
your first order of diapers
use code sarah10off$49 min. total order

What do you do when you get a free product coupon?

What do you do when you get a free product coupon? Do you rush to the store to get your free product? Not anymore!

Yesterday in the mail I got four free product coupons from Children's Tylenol and Motrin for their recalled medicines. Two weeks ago I got coupons for seven free jumbo packs of diapers Pampers (my son got a horrible rash from their new Cruisers). I'm holding onto these coupons so I can make money from them!

Here's what I suggest to maximize your free product coupons:

-Save the coupons for a buy one get a gift card free deal. Target often does this with diapers, so that's what I'm hoping for with my Pampers coupons. Usually every couple weeks they do a buy 3 jumbo packs, get a $5 gift card deal, so if I used 6 of my free diaper coupons I could have 6 jumbo packs of diapers PLUS $10 in gift cards.

-Use the coupon at Walgreens when the product has a register reward. I did this a few months ago for a razor rebate. I had a full rebate for the razor, so I figured if I bought it at Walgreens during a register reward, I'd actually make money off the deal- which I did- I got a $7.99 rebate for the razor and a $5.00 register reward. (Register rewards are coupons that print at Walgreens for buying a particular item or combination of items that you can use on your next order). Meijer is another place to try- there may be a Cataliana promo where you get a checkout coupon for money off your next order.

-Use the coupon at Rite Aid when the product has a rebate. Rite Aid does their own monthly rebate program so you could make money this way too.

Before I was good at couponing, I'd get a free product coupon and hurry up and use it... but with a little planning and waiting for an incentive- holding onto free product coupons can put extra cash in your pocket!

Do I even want to post another?

Yes, there really is another $3.00 off Huggies Little Movers or Little Snugglers- press your browser's back button. It's one that I posted last week and it reset already.

Thanks Hip 2 Save!

MORE Huggies Coupons

Huggies is seriously trying to get all the upset Pampers Cruisers people to switch to Huggies. There are now even more Huggies coupons- this time on Target's site- but they are manufacturer's coupons and can be used anywhere. Click on "Baby" to get right to the coupons. I was able to print each one two times.

$3 off HUGGIES® Snug & Dry Diapers
$1 off HUGGIES® Baby Wipes (128 ct. or larger)
$1.50 off on any two HUGGIES® Baby Wipes (64 ct. or larger)
$3 off HUGGIES® Little Movers or Little Snugglers Diapers

They expire 2 weeks from printing, so if you can, hold onto them until closer to the expiration for a sale or gift card deal. Target very frequently does a $5 gift card when you buy 3 jumbo packs, so hopefully there is another one of those deals before they expire.

Has anyone joined Huggies Enjoy the Ride and not bought any Huggies? I'm curious how many points you've earned without even buying a single product. Leave a comment and let me know if you've done this.

Huggies Enjoy the Ride Bonus Code!

Here is another new Huggies Enjoy the Ride code. This code worth 5 bonus points and is one sweepstakes entry for a Dodge Caravan. After I entered it I got a message that if I entered a rewards code from a product by June 30 I will get another 5 bonus points.

BFQCW HRKQM LKPGB

Go to Enjoy the Ride Rewards to register and enter codes.

Anyone can sign up for Huggies Enjoy the Ride Rewards, it's free and with all the free codes available you can probably earn rewards and never buy a single package of Huggies diapers. Huggies wipes also have codes on them, so if you ever buy Huggies wipes you'll get codes on them.

I had a new poll today when I went into earn points, so make sure you have taken all the polls and watched all the videos- you earn points for each one.

Your thoughts...

I finally figured out how to make all my links open up a new window. Do you like that feature? That way when you click on a coupon link I have posted a new window opens and you don't have to keep going back to my site- my window will stay open. Let me know if you like this or don't like it-- I can change it back if everyone hates it!

More vinegar uses

To follow up with more Going Green tips, check out this article with 25 more ways to clean with vinegar.

See my previous posting about cleaning with vinegar with a couple other links about Green Cleaning.

What's the better deal?

I saw a posting last week and wanted to share it with everyone. I posted awhile ago about checking the per item prices on diapers and other products. Totally Target has a great posting about this with Angel Soft toilet paper last week at Target. You have to look at the per item price and not fancy packaging!

Here's the difference:
Angel Soft 36 Double Rolls $14.99= $.41 cents a roll
Angel Soft 12 Double Rolls $4= $.34 cents a roll

When looking at the pictures at Totally Target, you'd really think that the 36 double rolls were a fantastic price- but looking per item, that's a significant difference. If you used a coupon with the 12 double rolls it would be even cheaper. You have to look at the item and not just the fancy packaging.

Free Crystal Light Pure Fitness samples through Vocal Point

Head on over to Vocal Point to request your free sample of Crystal Light Pure Fitness. Vocal Point samples usually come with good coupons... If the above link doesn't bring you to the right spot, search within their site for Crystal Light to get to the request form.

If you haven't yet registered for Vocal Point, I'd suggest it- they send out free samples and new products to you with high value coupons to try new products. Go here to register and start getting these freebies.

Finally- 6 Kraft First Taste Offers!

I didn't post this last week when I first saw it on another blog because I couldn't get into my special offers, but if you go to Kraft First Taste you might have offers for 6 free products!

This is what it said when I clicked on my offers:

Rite Aid Deal Picture

Sorry I didn't get a chance to post this last week, but this was my Rite Aid trip from last week. I have a bunch of regular Huggies at home but I was running low on Overnites, so I figured I'd use their sale to stock up...

I had to do 2 transactions- but my total before coupons and discounts for both transactions combined was $77.92. The weekly sales discounted my total by $19.60 and I used $28.50 in coupons- so my total out of pocket was $29.12.

I bought 5 jumbo packs of Huggies, 2 boxes of Playtex tampons, and a tube of Colgate toothpaste. I had a problem using my manufacturer coupon with the store coupon (I lost the battle and didn't get to use the coupon) so it could have been $1.00 less out of pocket.. Plus, I qualify for the Rite Aid rebate for a free jumbo package of Huggies (I'll get a voucher in the mail once I submit my Single Check Rewards). Without the other items, my diapers alone were $17.65 with tax for all 5 packages- so $3.53 a jumbo pack- plus I get another free pack with my rebate!

I did finally call Rite Aid to get clarification on their coupon policy. My local store (Portage) told me they will not accept a coupon from their ad with a manufacturer coupon because their in-ad coupons are actually manufacturer's coupons. I spoke with their corporate office and they said that you will need to look at the coupon and if the bar code starts with a RC, then it is a Rite Aid store coupon and can be used with a manufacturer coupon. They are going to contact my local store to clarify this information so hopefully they will be more aware of their own store policy next time.

In March, Target had a Everyday, Everywhere box of Huggies Natural Care Wipes with a Target coupon booklet inside the box.... In that coupon booklet there was a $3.00 off 2 Huggies wipes refill packs.

This week Target has Huggies wipes refills 184-216 ct for $5.49
Use $3.00 off 2 wipes refill pack from Everyday Everywhere box
Use $2.00 off 2 Huggies wipes printable- use the one for $2 off 2- 64 count or larger
===========
$10.98-$3-$2= $5.98 for 2 refill packs of wipes. That's $2.99 a pack! I'm so glad I saved these coupons!

Even if you don't have the $3 off coupon, use the $2.00 off 2 coupon to get the refills for $4.49 a pack when you buy 2- which is still a really good deal.

The cycles of sales...

One of the blogs I follow is The Coupon Project. It's where I got the really cool savings tracker that I use to track my coupon and sale savings.

Angela put together a pretty nice posting on what went on sale last year and when. These are the items she found to stock up on because they were at rock bottom prices. It's a pretty interesting list- you'll see that usually each season brings great sales on the hot items of the season. This is because the manufacturer wants you to buy their products and not the store brand products or the competitor's products. We do a lot of grilling on the spring and summer so hopefully we'll start seeing lots of good BBQ sauce and summer food coupons and sales,

When I first started couponing, I'd be really disappointed if I couldn't get a deal I was looking for, if the store was out of the product or if I just didn't make it to get the good deal. Now, I know that if I miss a sale, there will be another soon and it could be an even better deal!

Diaper Rash?

The past 6 weeks or so my 14 month old has had some pretty severe diaper rashes off and on. His bottom has been really red- it almost looks like a sunburn and has been so raw it's been bleeding. It has also looked blistery. There have been several nights he won't sit in the tub because his bottom has hurt so bad. I blamed it on teething because I had no other explanation, although he hasn't gotten any teeth in a few months.

I couldn't really figure why he was having them. I heard something on the news last week about the new Pampers with Dry Max being investigated for problems, and looking online last night the complaints were of the exact type of rash we've been experiencing. I felt horrible that I didn't figure it out on my own- but I rotate between Pampers and Huggies and didn't even think that it could possibly be from the new Pampers. I've always thought Pampers were superior to Huggies and have started using Huggies only recently since I've gotten such good deals on them. When the rash was more severe, I even made sure to put Pampers on because I thought that wearing them would help and did the same when I sent him to our babysitter, yet the rash kept getting worse.

I spoke with my pediatrician this morning and they said they have had similar complaints and advised me to contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission to report the problem. They advised me to put diaper cream or Vaseline on him (we're using Butt Paste) and that if it doesn't improve within a week or so of discontinuing the diaper to bring him into the office.

The new "Dry Max" technology that might possibly be causing the problems is only with their Cruisers and Swaddlers. Pampers Baby Dry diapers have stayed the same.

If you're having similar problems, please contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission to fill out form online- call them at 1-800-638-2772. I called them today and they took the report down and said there is a pretty serious investigation into these diapers. The representative I spoke with was really nice and said there were many similar reports. Please make sure to call if you are having problems with these diapers- the more parents that call the more quickly they will respond.

I called Pampers to report the issue to them as well (1-800-726-7377) and they said they tested the new diapers on over 20,000 families... I know I did a diaper trial not too long ago for a different brand and my "trial" was only 20 diapers and I was only required to use 10 to receive compensation for participation in the survey. My son's rash from these Cruisers didn't happen instantly- so even a 20,000 family study could have missed a reaction that takes a bit more time to develop. Pampers did take a full report and said I may be contacted for more information and will send me coupons to try their other lines of diapers that do not include the new dry max technology. They representative I spoke with there was very nice and did say they take all complaints seriously.

Sorry for the long posting-- but I wanted to share this with everyone so you can make sure your children don't experience similar problems!

Have you had similar problems? Let me know if you use Cruisers or Swaddlers and if you've had similar problems or if they're just fine on your child...

How to clean almost anything...

So, in my greening my cleaning, the replacement for many of my household products has been vinegar. Vinegar can clean almost anything (not marble and wood), is cheap and it's safe to use around kids. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant, so vinegar has replaced Lysol in my house.

Here are a few ways I use vinegar:

- as a spot/stain remover on the carpet (mix vinegar and water)

- the tray on my fridge door that catches ice/water (pour vinegar in tray and let sit for awhile, then wiped right off)

- my shower head (put vinegar in plastic bag and tape/rubber band around bag to hold in place for awhile)

- in my dishwasher as a rinse agent

- as a drain opener (pour boiling water, then vinegar and baking soda down the drain to open clogged drains)

- as a toilet cleaner (sprinkle baking soda in toilet and then vinegar and let sit)

- as a multi-purpose cleaner (mix with water in spray bottle to clean windows, counters, toys, etc)

Here are a few sites with uses for vinegar:

Real Simple- a great list of vinegar uses- also 66 All Natural Cleaning Solutions for other natural cleaning products

The Vinegar Institute- more vinegar uses

Have you used vinegar for anything?

Walgreens Picture

I had to go to Walgreens to refill an ink cartridge and since I was going there... I figured I'd get some more free toothbrushes and a couple other items.

I got everything in the picture for $5.05... My 3 year old really wanted the bubbles ($1.99) and since I was barely spending anything I let him get it.

$15.25 total before coupons and sales
-$7.40 in coupons
-$2.80 sales
=================
$5.05 out of pocket- that's around 67% in savings! If it wasn't for the bubbles it would have only been $2.94!

Target shopping picture

I just can't stay away from Target... I went visiting family out of town and got more coupons from them... I was very diappointed last Sunday when we (the Kalamazoo Gazette) didn't get the $4.00 off one Nivea body wash coupon, but I got one from my Grandma's paper! And, I found a buy one get one free Nivea body wash coupon so I got both for completely free!

I had to buy a Method hand soap refill with no coupon because we're on our last few bits of hand soap... and I needed batteries, so that's pretty much what I had to pay for at Target.

The items that were completely free were:

Carefree pantiliners
BIC Pens (x4)
Tide- travel size (x5)
Nivea body wash (x2)

Here's what I had to pay for:
Vaseline Sheer Infusion lotion ($.04)
Kleenex hand tissues ($.99)
Energizer batteries ($3.99)
Method soap refill ($4.69)

So... my totals for today's Target trip:
$39.49 before coupons and sales
-$26.74 in coupons
-$1.20 in sales
===============================
$11.55 out of pocket for everything in the picture!!

If I have time tonight I'll post which coupons I used on each items if you want to see how I did all this!

Products better for your health...

In the past couple months, I've started to use my couponing to help reduce my grocery and household costs and I've used that savings to start buying more organic and better food for my family. We're eating more organic fruits and veggies, and I can't believe that you can taste a difference. We're also eating organic chicken now- Smart Chicken. It's expensive, but you can taste the difference and there is much less waste than cheap chicken... I'm also shocked that my kids- innocent as they are at almost 14 months old and 3 1/2 years old- eat more organic carrots than traditional carrots and more organic apples than traditional apples. They can even tell a difference!

I found a book at the library- "Green This, Vol. 1- Greening Your Cleaning" by Deirdre Imus. It's an excellent book with tons of information about household products that I was using- and all the horrible chemicals and toxins and yucky stuff in everything. My 3 year old constantly has allergy/asthma/respiratory problems and after reading this book I realized that one more thing we can do to help him (and both my husband and myself who have allergies/asthma) is to get rid of the toxic cleaners we were using.

Seventh Generation makes a great line of non-toxic cleaners that are naturally safe and effective. I found a great deal on Seventh Generation cleaners at Target- there are $1.00 off 1 printable manufacturer coupons here and also $1.00 off 1 Target printable coupons here. They have a great multi-purpose spray cleaner that runs around $2.99 regular price at Target, and their dish soap is around $2.69. So, take $2 off those makes it very cheap! Their multi-purpose spray cleaner is great- I've used it on pretty much everything- the shower, around the kitchen, etc.. and what I LOVE about these products is I don't choke because of the fumes and I feel great using them around my kids.

I loved Lysol... I mean, I really loved Lysol- wipes, cleaner, spray... I never felt like something was clean unless I was choking on Lysol fumes. I was first very skeptical about using natural products but there are SO MANY natural disinfectants and cleaners around that only kill the bad germs and bacteria. After reading "Green This" I was really bothered by all the chemicals in everything and reading the side effects of exposure to each different chemical in each cleaning product it's no wonder why we have resistant strains of illness. It's really scary when you start reading up on this topic...

And beware of false claims on products. Several companies are coming out with products that have the name "green" in them to make themselves sound better- but they're really not. Try to look for non-toxic cleaners, and start reading ingredient lists. Seventh Generation is one of the brands that has been around for awhile now and has established themselves to be a good company with high quality products at reasonable prices.

Let me know if you have a chance to look into that book or a similar one and what products you've found to be better for your health... I'm trying to find a reasonably priced alternative to hand sanitizer-- since my readings have shown me that I really shouldn't be using that either!!

When you find that you can get things for free, like the travel size Dove I just posted and the toothbrushes and floss at Walgreens this week, consider getting them and tossing them in a box to donate to this organization or a similar organization in your area. I plan to go back to Walgreens to get 4 more toothbrushes/ dental floss to add to my donation box and also would like to find the travel size Nexcare bandages at Target. It's so much fun to get freebies in the store so why not get as many as you can and share the items with people who really need them.

Does anyone else want to start doing this?

$1.50 off 1 Dove Deodorant

Go here to print a coupon for $1.50 off one Dove deodorant- this should score you some free travel size deodorant and possible overage.

I usually try for 60% savings or higher but with buying the pretty expensive detergent and having to get all the medicines I'm happy with 55%!

Some of my thoughts on couponing... part 1

I thought it was time to take a minute and share my shopping history/ strategies with everyone. I have always used coupons... but it never really made a difference until last year when I started "couponing."

What's the difference between using coupons and what I refer to as "couponing?" Before, I'd buy a big box of diapers for $29.99 at Target and use a $1.50 off manufacturer coupon and think I got a good deal... What would I do now? I'd wait until there was a sale or promo on diapers and use the coupon with a sale to get an even better deal... like last week, jumbo packs of diapers were $8.99 and when you bought 3 you'd get a $5.00 gift card.

I never used to buy small packages of diapers because I thought it was a better deal to get a bigger box. When you do a little math, you'll see that most often you'll spend less when you buy smaller quantity because it's a higher percentage off... does that make sense? When I first started couponing, I started figuring the per item price (my cell phone has a calculator on it so it's pretty easy to do quickly in the store) and was surprised at the difference.

Here's an example:
Huggies Diapers- box of 108 size 4 diapers- $34.98 (Walmart online price) or $.32 per diaper
Huggies Diapers- jumbo pack of 27 size 4 diapers- $8.99 (regular price most places)- or $.33 per diaper

Using the $3.00 off 1 coupon scenario since this was the most recent big Huggies coupon:
Use the coupon on the box= $.30 per diaper
Use the coupon on the jumbo pack= $.22 per diaper

That's a significant difference! To make a deal like that even better (which I did last week at Target), I'd use Target store coupons with my manufacturer coupons. Last week I had 3- $3.00 off Huggies manufacturer coupons and 3- $2.00 off Huggies Target coupons that had came in some wipes packages a couple months ago. So here's what I was able to do:

3 Jumbo packs @ $8.99 each= $26.97- $9 (3- $3 off manufacturer coupons)- $6 (3- $2 off Target coupons)= $11.97 for 3 jumbo packs of diapers. Plus, last week Target was giving a $5 gift card when you bought 3 jumbo packs- so after gift card- I got 3 jumbo packs of diapers for $6.97!! That's only $.09 per diaper!! I hate to even think how much money I wasted on diapers for my now 3 year old! If only I would have learned how to do this sooner...

There's more for me to ramble about but I figure I better end this post here so it's not too long and I'll continue this later...
