Rite Aid... again
If you have kids, you can probably understand why I feel the need to stock up on diapers and kids shampoo when there is a good price. My kids are very good at finding ways to go through a container of soap a week ("mommy- look at all the bubbles!"), so I hate spending much money on it. I stopped at the other Rite Aid in town since we were down to our last package of diapers and wanted to take advantage of the Kimberly Clark $10 +Up Reward.
I considered ordering more coupons for the kids shampoo, but I figured that $1 a bottle was still a good price for a good shampoo and by the time I got the coupons neither store would have enough left.
5- Huggies Diapers- $8.99 (spend $40 in select Kimberly-Clark products, get a $10 +Up Reward)
-$3.00 off Pure & Natural coupon from home mailer
-(2) $2.50 off coupons from 2/27 SS
-(2) $2.00 off coupons from 2/27 SS
** $5.99, (2) $6.49, (2) $6.99 PLUS $10.00 +Up Reward! **
6- L'Oreal Kids Shampoo- $2.50 (spend $15, get $5 +Up Reward!)
Transaction #1 (5 diapers)

========================
$33.44 total OOP PLUS $5.00 in +Up Rewards still left to spend!
It's definitely not the best price for diapers, but when you're low on diapers you sometimes have to settle for an okay price. I am waiting for another Amazon gift card to get added to my Swag Bucks account so that I can get order diapers through Amazon again- I found another 20% off coupon code to use!

Coupon Purging
I found a great posting that Bargains to Bounty did about knowing when you can purge coupon inserts- check it out here. One of the challenges I have with keeping whole coupon inserts is finding the time to go through old inserts and knowing when I can get rid of the whole insert. Bargains to Bounty solves that problem using a regional coupon database on The Coupon Mom's site. This is much easier than going through each individual insert and removing expired coupons! Let me know what you think!

Walgreens
Although I do prefer to shop at Rite Aid, this week there weren't any deals I felt I had to get so I tried shopping Walgreens again. I did pretty well-- I could have done a bit better, but I think Walgreens is a bit more tricky. Next week I can already tell will be better! I did go to two different stores because the first store didn't have everything I wanted-- that's definitely the best part about Walgreens- there are 3 stores within about 4 miles!
First Store
Transaction #1
2- Excederin Tension- $4.99
2- $1.00 off coupon from 12/5 SS
** $3.99 each **
2- Excederin Extra Strength- $6.99
2- FREE Excederin Extra Strength coupons from home mailer- up to $5.99
** $1.00 each **
** BONUS *** Spend $20 in Excederin products, get a $10 Register Reward!! **
Disney Activity Books- 2 for $1 (so that I could use some Register Rewards)
$26.46 before coupons and discounts
-$5.00 Register Rewards used ($3 & $2)
-$13.98 coupons
** $7.48 OOP PLUS $10.00 Register Reward earned!! **
I could have done beter in this transaction if I would have gotten a smaller package of Excederin Extra Strength- it would have been completely free. I knew that I needed to spend $20 to get ther $10 RR, and buying 4 @ $4.99 wouldn't have been enough- and I figured that I'd just get the bigger ones for my freebies since they were only $1....
While I had been in the store, I saw that they had Infect Guard hand sanitizer on clearance for $.99-- I had left my coupon binder in the car but knew I had 2- $1.00 off coupons I had gotten somewhere, so I went outside after my first transaction and grabbed the coupons--
Transaction #2
Infect Guard Hand Sanitizer- $.99 (clearance price!)
$1.00 off coupons from ?? (I think these were in a magazine I picked up at the pediatrician's office)
** FREE!!! **
$4.10 before coupons and discounts
-$2.00 clearance discount
-$1.98 coupons (they adjusted them down to the sales price)
** $.12!! ** I love just paying tax for my purchases!!
Second Store
4- Reach Crystal Clean Toothbrushes- $1.79 each
4-$1.00 off coupons from 10/10 RP
** $.79 each PLUS $4.00 Register Reward when you buy 4= $3.16 OOP= $.84 moneymaker after RR! **
2- Easter Mini-Sticker books- 2 for $1 (again, I needed a filler to use a RR)
$8.65 before coupons
-$2.00 previously earned RR
-$4.00 coupons
** $2.65 OOP PLUS $4.00 RR earned!! **
So, for all three transactions, I spent $10.25 OOP for $39.21 in merchandise- PLUS I have $14.00 in Register Rewards to spend! Next week I'm going to see how low I can get my OOP with using my $14 in RR!

How do you know where to find a coupon?
If you're ever looking for a coupon for a particular item, you can check out the database at Hot Coupon World. It lists coupons and where they can be found- if they were in a newspaper insert, it lists the date of the insert and which particular one (Red Plum, Smart Source or P&G). I've used several different databases and this one works the best for me.
I keep all the newspaper inserts I get in a file so that when a deal pops up I can easily find the coupon. It's also nice because I usually have extras and am able to share coupons with some of my friends and coworkers. I file my inserts in individual plastic sleeves by type of insert and then in a folder by date.

Earn $5 Amazon gift card for 5 reviews!
If you like Amazon gift cards, here's another way to earn one for $5-- write 5 reviews for Viewpoints!
- The reviews must be at least 700 characters (NOT words- characters- and there is a character counter so you know how many you have written- it's not as bad as it sounds) - this is less than what was required for previous promos
- Must be written between March 11-21, 2011
- Fall within these categories: Home & Garden, Family & Pets, Health & Beauty, Kitchen (excluding food and beverages), Computers and Electronics.
- Be about real products; inappropriate, copied or bogus content will be removed
Go here to read all the details about the promotion. I have done three of these now and received the gift cards every time! The gift card will be emailed to you within a month of the promotion completion.
I have found that cleaning products, baby products and Pampered Chef products were the easiest for me to write reviews about. It really doesn't take very long to write these... and it's more money to spend at Amazon!

Another Walgreens trip
Last night Coupons.com released a new Pediacare coupon which makes Pediacare FREE this week at Walgreens. I couldn't pass that up- I've never used Pediacare brand before but all it contains is acetaminophen. I still had more Always coupons, and I followed the pictures and specific item counts in the ad and found the right ones which did generate the $2.00 Register Reward.
There can be overage if you do the Pediacare deal depending on which type you pick, so make sure to give your manufacturer coupon first and then the Walgreens coupon, and have something else in your order to absorb any overage. I think that the infants formula was $6.49 at the store I shopped at.
First Transaction
2- Pediacare Children's Fever Reducer- $6.99
2- $2.00 off printable
$5.00 off Walgreens coupon (in this week's ad)
** $.01 overage! **
The infant's formula was cheaper and could be a better money maker
Always-$2.99 (get $2.00 Register Reward)
$1.00 coupon from P&G Everyday Saving booklet
** $1.99 OOP PLUS $2.00 RR!! **
**BUY $10 in select products (Bounce, Swiffer, Febreze, Tide, Downy, Mr. Clean), get a $3 Register Reward**
2- Swiffer Wet Mopping Refill- $3.74 sale
BOGO coupon from 2/27 P&G
** $1.87 each! **
2- Swiffer Wetjet Refill- $4.71 sale
BOGO coupon from 2/27 P&G
$1.00 off coupon from when I bought my Wetjet
** $1.85 each! **
I bought 4 items, paid $7.45 OOP and got a $3.00 RR!
$41.96 before coupons and discounts
-$6.66 sales
-$10.00 Walgreens in-ad coupon
-$14.45 coupons
==========================
$10.85 OOP PLUS $5.00 in Register Rewards earned!
Second Transaction
2- Pediacare Children's Fever Reducer- $6.99
2- $2.00 off printable
$5.00 off Walgreens coupon (in this week's ad)
** $.01 overage! **
The infant's formula was cheaper and could be a better money maker
Always-$2.99 (get $2.00 Register Reward)
$1.00 coupon from P&G Everyday Saving booklet
** $1.99 OOP PLUS $2.00 RR!! **
$18.39 before coupons and discounts
-$1.00 sales
-$10.00 Walgreens in-ad coupon
-$5.00 coupons
=======================
$2.39 OOP! Plus another $2.00 Register Reward earned!
Total for both transactions:
$60.35 before coupons and discounts
-$7.66 sales
-$20.00 Walgreens in-ad coupons
-$19.45 coupons
==========================
$13.24 total out of pocket PLUS I now have $7.00 in Register Rewards to use! I'm happy with that!

A bad and good experience at Walgreens
I went to Walgreens this morning because they do have some good deals and I need to get into the swing of Register Rewards. This week they have Always liners or pads on sale for $2.99 with a $2.00 register reward. I had a couple coupons from direct mailings that made them free ($1 coupon) or a money maker ($2 coupon) after the Register Reward. Like my Rite Aid shopping yesterday, this trip did NOT go as planned... but this time it went better than I planned!
I planned on doing 2 transactions-
2- $2.99 Always (select ones generate $2.00 RR)
1- $2.00 coupon
1- $1.00 coupon
** $1.99 OOP for one, $.99 OOP for the other PLUS $2.00 RR's! **
But, when I got up to the cashier, she said that they were having problems yesterday with the RR's printing and we'd do the transactions and see if they printed. She said if they didn't print, I could send in a form for the RR or she could just void the transaction and give me my money back. So, we did both transactions, and neither RR printed. She called the manager up to approve the return, and after telling me that the reason it didn't print was because I used coupons (which is NOT the reason it didn't print), he gave me $4.24 back in cash AND gave me the items I had purchased. He gave me the Register Rewards PLUS tax in cash! So, I actually ended up leaving the store with $.90 more than I went in PLUS 2 packages of Always. Not too shabby! That makes up for screwing up my transaction at Rite Aid yesterday.
After looking around online at other blogs, I think the problem with the RR is that they didn't have the correct products displayed with the RR signs. I knew the liners I grabbed were different than listed in the ad, but they had a big sticker that said it was the one for the RR so I went with what the shelf said. I should have stuck with what was listed in the ad as far as specific item count.
$8.14 before coupons and discounts
-$1.80 sales
-$3.00 coupons
===========
$3.34 OOP
-$4.24 refund for RR not printing
===========
** +$.90 money maker!! **
Time for an upgrade
I've been really bad about using my coupon binder lately because every time I opened it one of the rings would open up and things would start to fall out. So I figured I'd use my Target gift cards left over from the freezer deals a couple weeks ago and buy myself a new binder. Now that I've had a coupon binder for awhile, I knew I wanted one with a handle and I found one that had a handle and was a dual-ring binder.
I'm still working on filling this now- hopefully I'll get all my clipped coupons filed this week and can start bringing a binder with me again. This one has lots of pockets and places to put things, but it doesn't have a nice file on the front like my first one did for my un-cut printable coupons.

Rite Aid with a plan
I went into Rite Aid with big hopes- I had 2 transactions figured out, using the +Up Rewards from the first one on the second one so I could bring my OOP real low. I earned a couple $3 off $15 survey coupons and I had my transactions calculated with as close to $15 as possible- pre-coupons, but my first transaction OOP had to be above $10 to use my $10 +Up Reward from last week. But, I went to Rite Aid with my kids and I was in such a hurry that I screwed up a bit and ended up doing just one transaction with more OOP than planned.
I accidentally handed the cashier some coupons in transaction #1 that should have been saved for #2 but they worked even though the items weren't in the order, so then I just put everything in one transaction. I was afraid of a cashier meltdown if she had to remove the coupons so I could separate the transactions. Still, a good deal, but it would have been nicer if I would have stuck with my plan. By the time I realized my screwup it was too late and I just went ahead with the transaction.
Here's what I ended up getting:
2- Cottonelle TP- $6.99- (get $1 +Up Reward)
2- $.50 off coupon from 1/23 SS (expired today!)
2- $1.00 off Video Values coupons (Feb & March)
** $5.49 each PLUS $1 +Up Reward for each! **
2- Reeses Minis- $2.50 (get $2 +Up Reward when you buy 2)
$2.00 off 2 from 1/30 SS
** $1.50 each PLUS $1 +Up Reward for buying 2! **
2- Biore Cleansers- $6
2- Biore Pore Strips- $6 (get $5 +Up Reward when you buy $15)
2- Buy a pore strip, get a cleanser free coupon from 3/6 SS
** $3.00 for each item, PLUS $5 +Up Reward!
Air Wick Aerosol- $1.69 BOGO
BOGO coupon from 3/6 SS (up to $1.39 value)
** 2 for FREE! (my cashier ran this coupon for the full amount instead of the coupon max- I didn't realize it until I just looked at my receipt) **
$68.42 before coupons and discounts
-$21.63 Wellness Plus savings and sales
-$3.00 off $15.00 coupon for filling out online survey
-$2.00- 2- $1 off $1 Video Values coupons
-$18.69 coupons
-$10.00 previously earned +Up Rewards
==========================================
** $13.10 OOP!! **
PLUS I earned another $8.00 in +Up Rewards! Even though my OOP was a bit higher than I wanted, I have more +Up Rewards left than planned and I still got a really good deal!

It's Mega Swag Bucks Day!
It's Mega Swag Bucks Day today! This means more Swag Bucks for your same everyday searching. Make sure to check special offers (you don't have to sign up for anything, just browse through them), answer the daily poll and check for surveys each day for one point each- 3 extra points each day do add up!
You can also print coupons and you get 10 Swag Bucks per redeemed coupon- I'm just starting to see the points started to get credited regularly.
It's a great way to get free gift cards and rewards for everyday internet surfing! My favorite reward is a $5 Amazon gift card for only 450 Swag Bucks.
I don't have the toolbar and still earn tons of points (I don't want any more programs running on my computer). I just keep signed into Swag Bucks all the time and use them to find the websites I'm visiting. Are you signed up for Swag Bucks yet? Do you have any questions for me about it? I was very hesitant at first, but but I've earned almost $200 in Amazon gift cards in the past year!

Rite Aid trip- just one trip this week
Here's my one Rite Aid trip this week- I have only went once and don't see another trip this week with the current deals. Both my boys have really dry skin this winter and Aveeno is the only lotion that really helps, so I figured I'd stock up this week and use some of my +Up Rewards.
Aveeno lotions have a $10.00 +Up Reward when you spend $25.00.
Here's what I did:
4- Aveeno lotion- 8 oz- $7.49 BOGO ($3.74 for second)
4- $1.00 off printable coupon from here
** $4.61 each **
2- Aveeno Baby lotion- 8 oz- $5.69 BOGO ($2.84 for second)
2- $1.00 off printable coupon from here
** $3.26 each **
$43.02 before coupons and discounts
-$10.35 Wellness Plus savings and sales
-$10.00 previously earned +Up Rewards
-$3.00 - $3 off $15 coupon from taking survey on receipt
-$6.00 coupons
===========================
$13.67 OOP PLUS $10.00 +Up Reward earned
Now, I do like free stuff, but to get 6 bottles of Aveeno lotion for $13.67 AND get another $10.00 +Up Reward is a pretty good deal for me. I could have made my OOP a bit less but my store didn't have any more Aveeno baby, and I didn't want to get the small 4 oz lotion.

February Rite Aid Summary
February didn't end up being my best month at Rite Aid as far as OOP is concerned- it seems higher than usual, but I did end up getting some great deals this month, stocked up at great prices and got some things we really needed.
$358.70 before coupons, sales and discounts
-$122.61 Wellness Plus savings and sales
-$10.00 Video Values $$ off coupons ($1/$1, $4/$20, etc.)
-$69.71 coupons
-$86.00 prevously earned +Up Rewards
======================================
$70.38 OOP
If you consider that I bought 13 packages of diapers, 3 boxes of wipes, 2 smaller refill packages of wipes plus everything else for $70.00... this really wasn't a bad month! I saved almost 80%!
