Coupon Organization

Many people wonder how to keep organized with so many coupons. When I first started couponing, I had a small accordian file. My coupon supply quickly outgrew that file and I switched to a binder system.

Here's how I organize my coupons:

Coupon Binder
The coupons that I clip, print or get from direct mail I put in my coupon binder. I bought this binder at Target for around $15. If you're thinking about switching to a binder system, now is probably the time with all the back to school deals. They have some great binders right now with straps which would be great for a coupon binder. I bought a package of ball card inserts (around $5 at Target) to use and I had colored plastic dividers already from college. What I like about this binder is that I have space for everything.

In the front of the binder, there is a full sheet size accordian file which I use to put printable coupons before they get filed, copies of store policies and current newspaper ads. I keep a small pair of scissors in the pocket of the binder and also some paperclips, a pen and envelopes. I also have a tab for rebate forms, and submitted rebates. I always keep copies of all that information in case of missing info, and once I receive the rebate I know I can get rid of it.

I have several pages of sheets in the front of my binder with coupons I plan to use for a particular store, and then divider sections with different categories. You can categorize anyway you want, but I ended up separating into these categories:

Cereal/Snacks/Bars
Packaged Items/Soup/Drinks
Refrigerated/Produce/Meat
Baby/Personal Care
Household/Cleaning/Pets

Within each of those categories, I have several pages of sheets so I keep each sheet somewhat of the same type of product (diapers/wipes, razors/shaving creams, paper products, etc.). So far, this has worked really well for me.

When I get ready to go to the store, I look up my matchups for that store and find the coupons I plan to use. I put them at the front of my binder on a page or couple pages and then when I'm at the store I can easily find those I had planned on using. I always bring my binder into the store, so if there are other items I see that I have coupons for, I can just flip back to that section and grab coupons for those other unplanned items. I like using the ballcard inserts because I can see the coupons- when I was using an accordian file I would constantly lose coupons or forget about them because I couldn't see them all without getting them out.

Every couple weeks, I'll just quickly flip through the pages and pull any expired coupons. It doesn't take more than a couple minutes usually. I'm not as good about going through the expired coupons in the inserts since there are so many, but will occasionally try to purge some of those as well. I usually keep my coupon binder and my insert binders with me, but only bring the coupon binder into the store.

Newspaper Inserts

To clip or not to clip: Time permitting, I like to go through the newspaper inserts when I get them and cut out any high value or other good coupons I plan to use. I then file the rest of the inserts in a 3-ring binder.

I get multiple copies of most newspaper inserts through my own newspaper subscription, copies from family and sometimes buying extras of my own. On the top front of each insert, I write the date of the insert. I have several 3-ring binders I use to store my inserts. I put the inserts in a sheet protector, file the newest in the front of the binder and have it ready for a sale. If I have a bunch of inserts from that particular week, I separate the insert by type (Red Plum, Smart Source or P&G).

When I first started couponing, I was not as organized with my inserts and would go through and toss any coupons I didn't plan to use, but I've learned to save the inserts because there are often deals that come up with products that I normally don't buy that either make me money or I could get for free.

Swag Bucks

Swag Bucks is a website that rewards you for doing your everyday internet searching. I joined in February and have earned over $100 in Amazon.com gift certificates.

Go here to join, and start earning Swag Bucks that you can redeem for prizes- I really like the $5 Amazon.com gift card, but there are lots of other good prizes- there is a $5 Red Envelope gift card for only 140 Swag Bucks.

You earn points just for joining and then earn points every day by using them to do your regular searches. Instead of typing in a website, you can just type it into Swag Bucks and earn points! I always type the sites I'm going to into the Swag Bucks search box and usually win points 2-4 times per day.

If you're already a member, earn points daily by viewing their special offers (you don't have to sign up for anything- just skip thru them to earn a point at the end), taking the daily poll and checking to see if you have any new surveys. I haven't earned many points for surveys lately, but in one day a couple months ago I earned over 500 Swag Bucks for 2 surveys that took me less than 10 minues! I think that even if you don't qualify for a survey, if you go in to start it you get another Swag Buck. You also get points for taking the different survey profiles and the different points are listed on the survey dashboard screen.

It's simple, it's free- all you do is sign in and use their search box and you earn points! They also do extra codes and Swag Bucks hunts to earn even more.

Let me know if you have questions- I was real hesitant when I signed up but it's easy and it gets me more free stuff!

Ebates Rewards

Ebates is a free rewards program that pays you cash rewards for shopping online. There are TONS of available stores and as long as you sign up for Ebates and use their site to get to the site you are shopping on, you earn a percentage back for each purchase! Some of my favorites are Shutterfly (10% back), Old Navy (4%), Target (3%) and Diapers.com (1-4%). There are tons of stores, so before shopping, definitely check this site because there are WAY too many to mention.

The only thing you have to do different when shopping is going through the Ebates site to get to the site where you are shopping. Each quarter you earn rewards, and after $5 in earnings each quarter you get a check in the mail (the pay schedule is listed on their site). If you don’t earn $5 in a particular quarter you don’t lose your earnings, they just don’t pay out until you hit the $5 mark… Go here to sign up and start earning!

It's a great, simple program that pays you money for normal online shopping. I've been a member since February and I've earned almost $20 in rewards ($5 of that was my free $5 for joining). When you sign up, you get $5 added to your account, but in order to get paid out you still have to earn $5 in rewards. If you have questions, email me or leave a comment... it's really easy and it's another great way to get paid for something really easy!

Kraft/Nabisco Deal at Meijer!

Last week I posted the new Kraft coupons for

$1 off 2 Kraft cracker barrel or natural cheese
$1 off 2 Maxwell House coffee
$1 off 2 Oscar Mayer lunchmeat
$1 off 2 Kraft Mayo or Miracle Whip
$1 off 2 Nabisco cookies or crackers

You can go back in and "clip" each coupon twice! Make sure to get your prints now while you can!

Meijer started a new Catalina this week for a $5 checkout coupon on your next order when you:
Buy $15 worth of any combination of the following items and get $5 off your next shopping trip: Nabisco Snack Crackers, Ritz Crackers, Kraft Dressing, Kraft Mayo or Miracle Whip Dressing, Kraft Singles, Natural Cracker Cuts or Chunk Cheeses, Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs, Wallet Zip-Packed, Deli Fresh or Carving Board Meats. Limit 2 transactions per purchase (so you can buy $30 worth and get 2- $5 coupons).

Here are some of the items that are on sale this week:
Kraft Cheese Chunks- 3 for $5 ($1.67 each)
Kraft Cheese Singles- $2.50
Nabisco Triscuits or Wheat Thins- $1.99
Kraft Miracle Whip or Mayo- $2.50
Kraft Dressing- 3 for $5 ($1.67 each)

This Catalina is good from 8/29/10 thru 10/13/10- so you don't have to rush out and use all your coupons this week- save the ones for the non-sale items for a week when they're on sale!

Mix or match, use your coupons and get a great deal on Kraft/Nabisco products. I stocked up on cheese (yes, I bought cheese!) Sunday. If you have access to a couple computers to get multiple prints of each coupon you can get some really good deals!

If you have problems with the Catalina printing, make sure to go to the service desk! They can write you a coupon for $5 OYNO if for some reason the Catalina doesn't print.

High value Huggies Pure & Natural Coupon

Head on over to here to print a coupon for $3.00 off Huggies Pure & Natural diapers-- this is a great coupon so print while you can!
I had to use zip 90210 to find it...

End of month coupon printing...

It's the end of the month already, so now is the time to make sure you get all your coupons printed before they reset!
Coupons.com. They are starting to limit prints to one on many coupons so don't be surprised when you can only print one of something.
Check my sidebar for links to other printable coupon sites (Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, etc.)

Keep checking Coupons.com for the next couple days because the end of the month and beginning of the month coupons are always resetting, coming and going!

Rite Aid August Summary

I like putting together my whole month of Rite Aid shopping- I can't believe the great deals I'm getting there. I used to spend SO much more money getting these normal household items at Target...

It's Mega Swag Bucks Day!

It's Mega Swag Bucks Day today! This means more Swag Bucks for your same everyday searching. Make sure to check special offers (you don't have to sign up for anything, just browse through them), answer the daily poll and check for surveys each day for one point each- 3 extra points each day do add up!

It's a great way to get free gift cards and rewards for everyday internet surfing! My favorite reward is a $5 Amazon gift card for only 450 Swag Bucks. I wanted to save them all for Christmas time but keep using them to order cheap diapers!

I don't have the toolbar and still earn tons of points (I don't want any more programs running on my computer). I just keep signed into Swag Bucks all the time and use them to find the websites I'm visiting.

Last Rite Aid trip for August

I was reminded again that I need to pay attention to details at Rite Aid. When I went the other day I thought I qualified for both Kimberly & Clark $5 rebates... well, once my receipts posted I realized that one of the wipes refills I bought had 216 wipes in it, not 184, and 216 wasn't a qualifying item on one of the rebates. So, I figured I'd finish that up and get some TP.

Cottonelle 12 pk- $6.49
$1.00 video values coupon
$.50 coupon from 8/15 SS

$12.08 before coupons and discounts
-$5.00 Sales & Wellness + Savings
-$1.50 coupons
-$4.00 +Up Rewards
==================================
$1.38 out of pocket

Now, I'll get both the $5 Kimberly & Clark rebates...

I should have my August Rite Aid totals and pictures up later today or tomorrow. I like putting together the summary of everything I got for so little out of pocket!

Sunday Coupon Preview

Head on over to the Sunday Coupon Preview to see what coupons will be in this Sunday's paper. Remember- the coupons vary by region- the Detroit Free Press usually has better coupons than the Kalamazoo Gazette. It's a P&G insert week-- I always get multiple copies when it's a P&G week... I can pretty much always get some freebies with those!

Rite Aid- just as planned!!

I had to stop at Rite Aid yesterday morning to see if I could get the great Huggies diapers and wipes deals I planned.... and sure enough, I did! I also confirmed, that at least with this deal that if you're buying different types of the same item, you can get multiple +Up rewards even though the ad limits one per household! Getting it together...

So, just to fill you in on the past couple months- it's been a little crazier than normal and my blog (and many other things) have been a bit behind. Since June I've taken two classes to finish my Master's degree- one online and one a two week class and now I'm done! I haven't taken classes since I've had my kids so it was a little more challenging- but I did great in both classes and am relieved to be done. We also took a great week long vacation a couple weeks ago on a lake up north- the trip was long overdue and we enjoyed every bit of it! After that I had family in town from out of state and spent as much time as I could with them, and now things are finally calming down and I'm starting to get things back on track.

After all that, my coupons are a mess! I've still been doing pretty well with couponing during all this- great at Rite Aid, not as good at Meijer... so tonight I decided I'd start to get my coupons back in order so I can get my grocery shopping spending down.

My project is not done, but I figured I'd show my progress as I start to show you how I organize my coupons. Lately, I haven't been doing much coupon clipping when I get the inserts, I just grab what I need from matchups I find and figured I'd deal with the rest later. Well, it's later now and it was time to do a coupon cleanout and organize.

I use a binder to organize my coupons and I use 2- 3-ring binders to store my newspaper inserts. They were a mess! Here are before pictures.

I had inserts going back to April, and I usually on a pretty regular basis take out any expired coupons and get the binder cleaned out. I went through the really old ones and cut out any coupons not yet expired that I might possibly use. I did this for most of May and June's inserts. I didn't have too many coupons to clip since most had expired... those were in my white binder. Here's how that ended up looking and what was left...

a small pile of coupons to put in my coupon binder, a bag of expired and cut inserts and a bunch of empty inserts!

Then I started working on the newer inserts and got through most of them!

I still have to go through and cut coupons from the past 2 weeks inserts, but I made it through the rest. I put all the to be recycled inserts in a bag (on the left on the picture) to be recycled--that's a lot of extra inserts I've been hanging onto! Tonight I hope to finish getting through my August inserts and then put them in my clipped binder. I'll post pictures of that and show you how that's organized in a later posting. It's nice to see two thin, organized binders again!

Sunday Coupon Preview

Head on over to the Sunday Coupon Preview to see what coupons will be in this Sunday's paper. Remember- the coupons vary by region- the Detroit Free Press usually has better coupons than the Kalamazoo Gazette.

This week it looks like there will only be one insert, but there will be some Huggies coupons- including a $.50 off wipes which will be nice if you don't want to buy 3 bags of wipes next week at Rite Aid.

Huggies deals at Rite Aid next week-diapers & wipes!

Next week, there are some good deals on Huggies and I've been waiting for a good Huggies stock up again! I'm posting this early because I want to make sure you get your coupon prints now while there are still prints.

Huggies Jumbo Pack Diapers, Pull-ups and Goodnites- $8.99 PLUS $2.00 +Up Reward
Here are the different coupons available for print:
$2.50 off Huggies Little Movers/ Little Snugglers
$2.50 off Huggies Pure & Natural
(these are the coupons you have to register for to print)
AND
$2.00 off Little Snugglers
$2.50 off Huggies Pure & Natural

PLUS there is a $2.00 off Huggies Video Values coupon to stack with the manufacturer coupon

So, if you buy just one package of diapers, you can do this:
$8.99
- $2.50 Manufacturer coupon
- $2.00 Video Values coupon
===========================
$4.49 PLUS you get a $2.00 +Up Reward= $2.49 for a Jumbo pack of diapers!

What I have found with some of the +Up Rewards, is although they claim to limit the number of +Up Rewards per specific product to one per household, if you buy different items (like Pure & Natural diapers/ Goodnites), you can sometimes get multiple +Up Rewards. I doubt that this would work if you bought different sizes of the same item, but it might possibly work for different items. I'm planning on going early next week to Rite Aid so I'll let you know after I go how this one is working.

=========================================
Rite Aid also will have Huggies wipes refills (184-216 ct) and Huggies Little Swimmers swim diapers on sale for $6.99 with a $1.00 +Up Reward- There are also 2- $5.00 rebates for buying $25 in Kimberly Clark Products (rebate #10 & rebate #148). Here's a scenario for a stockup on wipes that should qualify you for both rebates!

3- Huggies wipes refills= $20.97
1- Huggies Little Swimmers swim diapers= $6.99

$27.96 (so you qualify for spending $25 in Kimberly Clark Products and get 2- $5.00 rebates!)
- $5.00 off $25.00 coupon
- $3.50 off 3 Huggies wipes refills printable coupon
- $1.00 off Huggies Little Swimmers printable coupon
====================================
$18.46 out of pocket

You'll earn
2- $5.00 Gift card rebates
at least 1- $1.00 +Up Reward, possibly more depending on how it looks at the items!

Best case scenario- $18.46 OOP, -$10 rebate cards -$4 +Up Rewards= $4.46 after rebates and +Up Rewards

I'm probably going to combine the two scenarios to try for more +Up Rewards

Here's what I'm thinking (and using a raincheck I already have for Ziploc bags):
#1
$8.99 Huggies Pure & Natural Diapers
$8.99 Goodnites
$6.99 Huggies Little Swimmers
$2.99 Ziploc bags
===================================
$27.96
- $5.00 off $25.00 coupon
- $2.50 Pure & Natural
- $2.50 Goodnites (previously available for print)
- $2.00 Video Values coupon
- $2.99 Ziploc bags coupon
- $1.00 Little Swimmers coupon
====================================
$11.97 OOP: $2.00 +Up Reward (possibly 2 of these) & $1.00 +Up Reward earned= $8.97 or $6.97 after +Up Rewards

#2
$8.99 Huggies Little Movers
$6.99 Huggies wipes
$6.99 Huggies wipes
$6.99 Huggies wipes
$2.99 Ziploc bags
============================
$32.95
- $5.00 off $25.00
- $3.50 off 3 wipes
- $2.50 Little Movers

Did you know?

Buy one, get one free coupons
Did you know that at most stores, you can use two coupons with a buy one, get one free coupon?

For example, yesterday at Rite Aid, I bought two Oral-B toothbrushes. Here's what I did:
2 Oral-B toothbrushes- $2.99 each
$2.99- used $1.00 off coupon= $1.99
$2.99- used BOGO coupon= FREE
paid $1.99 for 2

In the above scenario, the BOGO coupon is attached to the free item so you can use a separate coupon for the item you are paying for, bringing down the cost of the item you're paying for and getting you a second for free!

Most coupons state "one coupon per purchase." What that means is that you cannot use multiple coupons on the same item- you cannot buy one toothbrush and use two- $1.00 off coupons. Many people also think that the phrase "one coupon per purchase" means they can only use one coupon for one item that day. That's not true either- if you are buying five bags of diapers and have five coupons, you can use a coupon with each individual bag of diapers.

Rite Aid Deals!

Another great Rite Aid trip- although I'm pretty sure I forgot to give one $1 coupon I still got some freebies and some great deals.

** Qualifies for oral care rebate **

Meijer Matchups

Here are some links for Meijer Matchups for this week. I didn't see any fabulous deals, but there are some decent sales this week.

Spectacular Savings- Kalamazoo/Portage ad

Savings Addiction- Grand Rapids area ad

Bargains to Bounty
- based on Metro Detroit ad- shows double coupons (we aren't this lucky in Kalamazoo/Portage!)

Kraft First Taste

Check your Kraft First Taste account because you might have a new offer for FREE Homestyle Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese. The coupon will be mailed to you after you request it, and they usually arrive pretty quickly.

If you haven't yet registered for Kraft First Taste, I'd highly recommend it- I would say that at least monthly I get high value coupons if not free product coupons. And of course it's FREE to join!

I do regularly check my account and complete any outstanding surveys. That way the offers keep coming!

I don't have the toolbar and still earn tons of points (I don't want any more programs running on my computer). I just keep signed into Swag Bucks all the time and use them to find the websites I'm visiting.

Are you using Swag Bucks yet? If you haven't yet signed up, now is the time- enter code BackToSchool when you register and get 40 more points in addition to the 30 you get for normally registering!

Rite Aid Shopping

And yet another great Rite Aid shopping trip. I needed a couple things (trash bags/ kids shampoo) and figured I'd see what magic I could work at Rite Aid... I was pretty happy with the scenario I worked out.

3- Schick Hydro Razors- $5.99 (we do not need more men's razors but I can't turn down free when it helps me get to $25!)
3- $5.00 off coupons from 8/8 SS
** $.99 each= $2.97 total PLUS will submit for Try me free rebate ($5.99 purchase price) to make $3.02 money maker on 3! **

Suave Kids Shampoo- 2 for $4
- no coupons...
** $4.00 for 2 **

Rite Aid Trash Bags- $5.99 BOGO (I normally stick with name brand but figured I'd give store brand a try)
- 10% Wellness Plus Discount
** $5.39 for 2 boxes of trash bags- hopefully I like them! **

$39.68 before coupons and discounts
- $10.98 Wellness Plus savings and sales
- $5.00 off $25.00
- $15.00 manufacturer coupons
- $5.50 previously earned +Up Rewards
=======================================
$3.20 after sales and coupons
- $3.20 remaining on Rite Aid gift card earned from previous promotion
=======================================
FREE!! Plus $5.99 Schick rebate!

There were a couple other items on sale this week and my store was out- but I actually got rainchecks for them. This week Ziploc bags are BOGO and I have 2 BOGO manufacturer coupons so I can get 4 free boxes of Ziploc bags once they come in. They also were out of some BOGO deodorant which I have a BOGO coupon for... I like those freebies to help get to $25 to use the $5 off $25.

Shopping at Rite Aid

Rite Aid Shopping- I keep meaning to post some of the basics of Rite Aid shopping and here it is!

Wellness Plus Program
The first step to shopping at Rite is to sign up for their Wellness Plus Program. In order to get most of the weekly sale items, you now are required to have a Wellness Plus card. You earn points for each purchase and each prescription filled, and get different benefits at different levels. It's free and easy- you can sign up on online or in the store.

For every 125 points up to 375 points, you get a 10% off your purchase coupon and when you hit 500 points you get 10% off all your purchases and at 1000 points you get 20% off your purchases. You earn 25 points with each prescription purchase. I was worried that I would never earn any points since I usually try to keep a very low out of pocket, but to the best that I can figure it (and have heard from other bloggers) you earn points based on your price before manufacturer's coupons since Rite Aid is reimbursed for those. You also get a $5 off $25 coupon when you register and weekly emails with additional Rite Aid store coupons.

+Up Rewards
With the Wellness Plus card, you now can earn +Up Rewards. These print out on your receipt and are for money off your next shopping trip. They are treated like cash- you can use as many in one transaction as long as your subtotal (total before taxes) does not go in the negative. I really like the +Up Rewards program because unlike Walgreens Register Rewards program, they are treated like cash and you can also use manufacturer's coupons.

You can only earn one +Up Reward per transaction, and they are starting to limit the number per Wellness Plus card.

Single Check Rebates
Rite Aid also has a their own rebate program called the Single Check Rebates program (SCR program). I was at first very hesitant to shop at Rite Aid because I didn't like all the rebates. I figured they would take forever to get and would be a pain. Now, it's part of the fun of shopping at Rite Aid. Each month, a new booklet comes out with all the SCR's for the month- their month isn't necessarily a calendar month- the July SCR's were only good through 7/24, etc.

SCR rebates can be done entirely online- which is a great perk, since you can sometimes double dip with rebates (qualify for a SCR rebate as well as a manufacturer's mail in rebate). You simply enter your receipt information on their site and they qualify your rebates based on the information on your receipt. You do not have to mail in the original receipt and it usually only take a day or two to show up on your account. You request the checks at the end of the rebate period.

Rite Aid Video Values
Another great program Rite Aid has is their Rite Aid Video Values program. You register with the Video Values program and watch advertisements to earn coupons. These coupons can be stacked with manufacturer's coupons AND most in-ad coupons to get a great deal. You can usually also earn a couple $5 off $25 coupons from watching videos and also earn 20 video credits to earn another $5 off $25 or sometimes even a $5 off $20 coupon.

$5 off $25 coupons
Redplum usually has a printable $5.00 off $25.00 coupon for Rite Aid. You often have to extend your search radius to 50 miles, but you can get 2 of these coupons per computer. Most of the time, I make sure I hit $25 before coupons so I can use one of these coupons.

The Rite Aid Challenge!!
What I call the Rite Aid challenge is strategically using their deals with your $5 off $25 coupons and other coupons to pay the least amount out of pocket and get the most rebates and +Up Rewards. Sometimes you can save money by getting a couple free after coupon items so you can hit the $25 mark to get your $5 off. The first few weeks are definitely challenging and take some getting used to- but it can be lots of fun. I used to spend tons of money at Target each month, and although I still love Target, I shop at Rite Aid more often because I "buy" many of the items I used to get at Target for free or even get paid for getting them after rebates.

I also like to save any free product coupons I have and use them when they have either a SCR or an +Up Reward. That helps bring your total to $25 and turns that freebie into a money maker.

I'll try to get the Rite Aid coupon policy posted or a link to it for you to have with you. I had problems when I first started shopping at Rite Aid, but they seem to have worked out most of the problems with their coupon policy now. Their coupon policy is very clear about the different types of coupons. You can stack a BOGO manufacturer coupon with a BOGO in-store sale for 2 free items. That's a nice part of their policy!

Last month, I got paid $9 for buying $350 in products- these are everyday items like diapers, toilet paper, paper towel, toothpaste and personal care items. Check out my July deal picture here.

Have you started shopping at Rite Aid yet? Do you like it? Let me know if you have any questions- it took me a bit to get used to shopping there but it's definitely worth the effort!

Second Rite Aid trip

So, I'm about a week behind still and this is a picture from my second trip to Rite Aid last week.

$10.00 Profoot
$2.00 Desitin +Up Reward
$1.50 Crest +Up Reward

** $15.50 money maker!! **

The store I went to only had 2 heel creams, so I got the orthodics to get my 3rd Profoot item and am hoping to exchange that for another heel cream this week....
I'm also $.04 away from the oral care $5.00 rebate or $10.04 away from the oral care $10.00 rebate so I'll definitely hit that one soon too!

Subscribe by email

Did you know that you can subscribe to my blog by email? I know it's more fun to check the site constantly (I'm constantly checking all the blogs I follow), but getting emails is a great way to make sure you aren't missing any deals.

In the top left corner of my blog there is a box to enter your email and you'll receive a daily email with a brief description of my posting. If I don't post anything that day, you don't get an email... but this way you won't miss any postings.

Hopefully I'll be back to blogging as normal next week. The past few weeks... or month it's been crazy and now things should finally be settling down and I should be able to keep up with deals.
